Baby Spitting

Why is my baby spitting so much?

Esophageal reflux, also known as “heartburn”, is common in infants due to their liquid diets, frequently lying flat, and having a weak valve at the top of the stomach. As they grow, though, that valve becomes stronger, they learn to sit upright, and their diet expands to include solid foods. While most babies are “happy spitters” those with more severe reflux may have trouble gaining weight or be very fussy, especially after eating. Treatments are available and we at Cornerstone pediatrics educate our patients and parents on management with simple measures before considering medications.
